Maib joins government initiative to support farmers with new product - the Agricultural Loan for Working Capital

Maib, the banking sector leader, announces its eligibility as a lender for the Agricultural Loan for Working  Capital, aimed at micro and small entrepreneurs. This financial instrument for relief purposes was developed through the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA) and the Organization for the Development of Entrepreneurship (ODA), following extensive consultations with stakeholders, including farmers, representatives of commercial banks, the Ministry of Finance and the State Tax Inspectorate. 

The Agricultural Loan for Working Capital will be available from March 15, 2024, and will support farmers by facilitating access to working capital and refinancing. Guaranteed by the state up to 1.6 million MDL, the product represents a long-term solution to strengthen farmers' financial capacity.

Characteristics of the new loan product:

  • the maximum amount of the ODA guarantee - 80% of the loan amount, but not more than 1.6 million MDL;
  • purpose - working capital and/or refinancing;
  • grace period - up to 8 months;
  • term - up to 36 months;
  • guarantee fee - for 2024, a preferential guarantee fee rate of 0.5%, adjusting to 1% annually after that;
  • collateral - a minimum amount of collateral equal to 100% of the loan amount at the time of application, including real estate, fixed and current assets (excluding receivables), including the ODA guarantee;
  • founder and/or administrator guarantee - mandatory for all loan applications.

At the same time, maib reminds cereal producers that, starting from March 1 2024, they can also apply for the Emergency Agricultural Loan of 500 thousand MDL to start spring works.
