Maib recommends: 5 books with and about money

As part of maib edu, we set out to tackle topics from the vast world of financial education in an accessible, engaging and interactive way. In the first article of the "maib recommends" series, we have suggested three films with and about money, which present various aspects of this field.

However, if you find it easier and simpler to assimilate the information through reading, we recommend 5 books on and about money in this article. We have selected different books in different styles and points of view so everyone can find their next favourite piece of financial literature.

So here are 5 books with and about money that we recommend:

  1. "The Psychology of Wealth” by Charles Richards

In this book, psychotherapist Charles Richards answers questions such as why we are afraid to set financial goals, why we do not have money, and how it affects our relationship with money. "The Psychology of Wellbeing" is based on extensive research and interviews with experts in the field, from which the author suggests how to improve our relationship with money and, therefore, our quality of life.

The book also contains the stories of people who have overcome obstacles to build the life they wanted. "The Psychology of Wealth" is aimed at readers who want to succeed in their personal and professional lives and achieve their desired level of prosperity.

  1.  "The Fortunate Mill (Moara cu noroc)" by Ioan Slavici

In the category of novels written by Romanian authors, we recommend a book that many studied in high school but did not necessarily approach from a financial and money management perspective.

"The Fortunate Mill" is a psychological novel that teaches us that managing and multiplying money correctly is crucial to our lives and wellbeing. The action takes place in a Transylvanian village in the second half of the 19th century and follows several storylines, addressing the financial aspect indirectly. Still, the book leaves you wanting to reflect on your priorities, the importance of financial education and the psychological aspects behind money decisions.

Even though "The Fortunate Mill" was on your required reading list in high school, we recommend giving it another chance and rediscovering it from a new perspective.

  1. "Financial Intelligence" by Karen Berman, Joe Knight, John Case

This book is aimed at managers to help them navigate and understand figures, data and indices and their relevance. 'Financial Intelligence' is written in accessible and engaging language, explaining the concepts covered using real stories of companies that have succeeded in becoming more efficient and market-stable.

The book has been included in the 100 Best Business Books of All Time list and is considered one of the most valuable financial education books for managers, providing handy tools and practical strategies that will help them allocate resources and make decisions with more confidence.

  1. "Money in One Lesson. How it Works and Why" by Gavin Jackson

In this book, you can simply and easily find out what money is and how it influences society and ourselves through relevant historical examples. Starting with stories such as the Irish bank strike of the 1970s and ending with the Great Shell Money Inflation in West Africa, the book brings us closer to the complex world of finance and related phenomena.

Thus, "Money in One Lesson. How it Works and Why" helps us understand what currencies and the contemporary financial system are and how they relate to the economy. This book has the potential to lay the foundations for your understanding of the financial field and the evolution and importance of money.

  1. "The Path” by Tony Robbins and Petter Mallouk

"The Path" is being promoted as a book capable of changing the way you think about money by exploring two essential issues: how the market works and your financial goals.

The book aims to accelerate your journey to financial freedom and a deeper understanding of this area, supporting you to create a step-by-step guide to building a personalised plan for your financial evolution. "The Path" reveals the mechanics behind people's decisions regarding money and teaches you how to better understand yourself by adopting effective financial habits.
