Activate your card and set up the PIN
Did you open a maib digital card, receive your card by courier, or just pick it up from a branch? To use it, you need to activate it by setting up your PIN.
Activate it by setting a new PIN directly in maibank, at any maib ATM, or at a POS terminal in maib branches.
Activate the card from maibank, or simply insert the card into an ATM or POS terminal and enter the PIN from the envelope.
Set your PIN directly from maibank
This method can be used both to activate new cards without a PIN in the envelope and to set a new PIN if you have forgotten your previous one.
Your card's PIN is confidential and should be known only to you. Never share it with anyone, no matter who asks for it. maib will never ask you for your PIN.
Other ways to activate your card
maib ATM
- Check whether you have received the activation code by SMS from the short number 6242.*
- Insert your card into the ATM.
- Enter the activation code received by SMS.
- Set your desired PIN.
- Re-enter the PIN to confirm.
- Confirm the operation.
*If you have not received the activation code, send the last 4 digits of your card by SMS to the short number 6242 from the phone number registered with the bank.
POS terminals at maib branches/agencies
- Insert your card into the terminal.
- Enter your desired PIN and confirm.
- Re-enter the PIN to confirm.
- Enter the activation code received by SMS or the PIN from the envelope, then confirm.
After activation, you need to carry out a transaction at a maib ATM, such as a balance check or cash withdrawal, in order to be able to make payments by physically inserting your card into a POS terminal.
Frequently asked questions
Exception: digital cards are active immediately after issuance.
You can unblock it directly from maibank:
- Go to the blocked card;
- Tap “Unblock”;
- Confirm the operation.
If you no longer remember your PIN, you can select “Change PIN” and set a new one.
- Go to the card for which you want to change the PIN
- Tap “Change PIN”
- Enter a 4-digit PIN
- Re-enter the PIN to confirm
- Confirm the operation using the available authorization method
- Done — your PIN has been changed
Important: You can set or change the PIN up to 2 times a day for each card.
- Send the last 4 digits of your card by SMS to 6242. Make sure you use the phone number registered with the bank.
- Select the inactive card from the card list in maibank and activate it by setting the PIN directly in the app — no activation code needed.
