Visa Platinum card insurance changes

We are pleased to announce a significant improvement to your travel experience.

Starting January 1, 2025, Visa Platinum cardholders will have access to enhanced insurance terms and conditions designed to provide extended protection for international and domestic travel.

Key changes:

1. Extension of coverage in the country of residence

  • The insurance now also covers travel within the country of residence, not just international trips. To benefit from this coverage, the cardholder must book in advance a minimum of two nights’ accommodation at a hotel, motel, vacation home, or recreation center, located more than 100 km from their residence, paying the expenses with their Visa card.

2. Risks covered in the country of residence

  • Emergency medical assistance
  • Accident during travel (for children up to 16 years old)
  • Buyer protection (online & in-store)
  • Protection of personal goods and/or cash
  • Damage waiver in case of collision with a rental car

3. Extended coverage for children

  • The cardholder’s children, including stepchildren and adopted children, are also insured, up to a maximum of five children per trip, if they:
    • Are under 18 years old (or under 24 years old if they are full-time students),
    • Are financially dependent on the cardholder,
    • Live with the cardholder unless they are pursuing full-time studies.

4. Increased compensation limit

  • The compensation limit has been raised to 750,000 USD, providing substantial financial protection for potential incidents.

5. Risks covered in International Travel:

  • Flight delays
  • Baggage delays
  • Missed flight / missed connection
  • Trip cancellation or reduction
  • Medical expenses and repatriation
  • Hospitalization, protection of personal goods and cash
  • Liability for car accidents with rental vehicles
  • Buyer protection

6. Non-eligible travel for insurance:

  • Business trips
  • Trips for medical treatments
  • Travel not for tourism purposes

To activate the insurance attached to the card, the travel payment must be made in full with the Visa card, either for tickets or prepaid accommodation for the entire trip. All tickets must be paid in advance with the premium Visa card for multiple trips.
