A new fraud scheme: fake calls on behalf of the ami virtual assistant by maib

We would like to inform you about a new fraud scheme involving the use of voice bots and voice impersonation technologies.

Ami by maib DOES NOT make phone calls

The virtual assistant ami communicates exclusively in text format through the official maib website.

Any phone call in which a person or an automated system claims to be ami and requests information should be treated with extreme caution.

How does this scheme work?

Fraudsters may use voice bots to initiate phone calls and encourage individuals to engage in a conversation. During such interactions, the recipient's voice may be recorded and later used for voice impersonation.

Fraudsters may also spoof the caller ID displayed on your phone, making the call appear legitimate.

At a later stage, they may contact your colleagues, business partners, or other individuals while pretending to be you and request money transfers or confidential information.

How can you protect yourself?

• Do not disclose personal data, banking information, or any other sensitive information during suspicious phone calls.
• Do not continue conversations with unknown voice bots or individuals requesting information.
• End the call immediately if you have any concerns.
• Verify any request through a secure and independent communication channel.
• If you have doubts about the authenticity of a call, contact the bank using official contact numbers only.

Important: the risk is not limited to the misuse of the ami virtual assistant's identity. Fraudsters may use other automated systems or voice cloning technologies to create the appearance of a trusted communication.

Stay vigilant! Do not share information or make transfers based solely on a phone request, even if the caller's voice or phone number appears familiar.
